Gfw's 2-Level Beef Jerky Grid
12/30/2000 - I'll be the 1st to admit, this 2-level grid was conceived after looking at Old Dave's Multi-Level BGE Grid that he designed and sent me the pictures that are posted on the hyperlink. I needed something for making beef jerky and I also wanted something easy to work with. The grids (14.5 inches in diameter) are the same ones that I have been using for the pat year. They were the only parts that I kept from an old electric smoker after I got the BGE.
| My 1st attempt (left) was very thrown together and I only hand tightened the nuts - but it worked great. The jerky dried in less time than normal and it required less effort. The bolts are only attached to the lower grid - the top grid site 2 inches above and lifts right off. The lower grid stands on the main BGE grid. | |
For the current version, I actually used a
wrench. The parts list included:
On each bolt, I placed a 1x 3/8 inch washer,
a 1.5 x 1/4 inch washer, the copper tube, a 1.5 x 1/4 inch washer, the grid,
1.5 x 1/4 inch washer and a 1/4 inch nut. at the bottom I placed a 1/4 inch
nut on each side of a 1.5 x 1/4 inch washer. Total cost, about $2 not
counting the grids. |
