Trivet / Fire Grate

03/26/2000 - I was down to my last grate so I decided to try something I found posted on the forum a while back - I think by Char Woody. The pictures below are of a 7" floor drain cover from my local hardware store. It came with a nice coating of green paint. After the baby back ribs were done yesterday, I put the new green drain cover on the coals. After flipping a few times, the green paint was all gone. I removed the square edges with a grinder. The picture on the right shows the floor drain in my medium BGE - 1st test will be tonight.

07/21/2000 - After almost 4 months the floor drain hasn't been out of the BGE - low/slow or hot/high - it does a great job. I have a medium BGE, for a large check out the info below!

This type of trivet is used to replace the the grate inside the BGE. The one pictured is manufactured by Lodge Manufacturing Company and is 8 inches in diameter. Another site that sells the same product and a few others in U. G. White Hardware. On 6/4/2000 the price was $7.95 at both sites.

<- If you are wondering what they are used for, see the picture to the left - it is usually in 1 piece in the bottom of the BGE! I must have let it get too hot. Note - the ceramic trivet found in the medium BGE is only 6.5 inches - not 8 inches.
